Renee Ruth's debut album "HyperBlue" is a roller coaster ride across the spectrum of rock and roll music, It is also a big breath of fresh air. Heavy bass and drums lay the ground work while furious yet melodic guitars fill the middle, revolving around the beat like a carousel. Pair that with Renee's distinct voice and you have an album filled with emotion and energy that is reminiscent of rock music's glory years. "I wanted this record to be a clear representation of what [we] sound like as a band, also what to expect when you come see us live, I want to bring musicianship and live shows back to light", says the singer. Growing up 12 miles west of New York City, Renee was exposed many cultures and musical styles, which shows in his song writing. "I try to challenge song structure and come up with something interesting".
The Album "HyperBlue" starts off running with the first three songs, The Good Life, Outsiders, and Panther. Renee's unusual riffing style has a sense of disjointment, which is boldly apparent in songs like Outsiders and especially Salazar; a particular track that stands out from the rest with its choppy hypnotic head-banger of a beat. Panther is another track that showcases Renee's style, the bassline in the chorus attacks the beat while the guitar plays a lullaby type of melody in forwards and reverse. A slow raggae inspired beat guides you through the process and during all this catastrophe Renee asks a simple question, "Will you fight for me?". That example can sum up the entire album, It's a mash up of many genres but not obvious, nor mediocre. Every song has a special touch, which makes this a special album from start to finish. The closer track, which is appropriately called, "HyperBlue" ends with the final cry "take a look in the mirror and for once push yourself to create and inspire, thats what I want from you", Renee explains, "It's important for people to take risks and put themselves out there, this album represents my risk taking with song writing".
Now with Enrique Mancia on Bass, Chris DeRosa on Drums, and Teddy Oliver on 2nd guitar. Renee Ruth will be playing around the Tri-State area and beyond.
